Bishopswood Bloodstock Boarding

We are able to offer private, permanent boarding facilities for a limited number of broodmares alongside our own mares, some of whom are owned in partnership with Paul and Sara Thorman of the well-known and respected Trickledown Stud. Trickledown handles all our foal and yearling sales preparation and that of our clients (should they wish to send their foals/yearlings to the Sales), as they are confident that the youngstock we send to them have been correctly produced, enabling them to prep them to maximise each individual's potential.

We have the advantage of making our own hay/haylage, which is analysed by Baileys Horsefeeds and consistently has been found to be well-balanced, palatable, high quality forage. We also routinely use Baileys feeds, plus supplements as necessary.

All fencing for the grazing paddocks is double strand wide equine electric fencing, with good hedging behind, which offers a high degree of protection. We have found this to be the safest form of fencing. This allows us to have our youngsters out almost all the year round, although in very wet winter weather they are stabled by night.

Mares and foals coming home from stud are handled daily, ensuring that they are well-mannered to lead, used to having their feet picked up for the farrier and are accustomed to all forms of vehicles passing them, especially heavy farm machinery! All broodmares are in at night during the winter. Mares with foals at foot are also in at night until we are confident the foals are well-mannered and ready to be out full time.

We are very fortunate in having a great farrier (he has an extensive waiting list!) who is not only skilled at trimming youngstock but who also is quiet, patient and determined when handling our foals and yearlings. His charges are also exceptionally reasonable.

For transport, we use either our own box or Alan Walters Horse Transport - Alan's yard/depot is only four miles from us, so we are usually able to take advantage of shared journeys.

Our charges start at £10.50 per day for permanent boarders (barren/maiden mares) and all worming/farrier/transport charges are passed on at cost. Please call on 07860 375888 or 01823 673314 if you would like to discuss boarding your mare with us or to arrange a visit
